Sunderland take on Leeds United in their second US pre-season friendly at Sports Illustrated Stadium, New Jersey, with kick-off at 00:30 BST. The match follows their recent 2-1 victory over Chelsea on 24 May 2026, part of a strong run that saw the Black Cats finish 7th in the Premier League last season with 54 points (14W-12D-12L) and a 42-48 goal difference.
This is Sunderland’s third pre-season game and second in the US, after a defeat to Liverpool in Nashville. The club’s profile is rising, with fans and former players embracing the tour’s festive atmosphere. Leeds United, a historic rival, last met Sunderland in a friendly in 1976, winning 2-1 at Roker Park.
Live coverage is available. Full commentary is provided on BBC Radio Newcastle (not online). Fans can also track updates and read player ratings post-match.
After this friendly, Sunderland’s next competitive fixture is away to Ipswich on 22 August 2026. The Black Cats enter the new season on a four-game winning streak (WWWWD), including their recent 2-1 win over Chelsea, and will look to build momentum ahead of the Premier League campaign.
