Sunderland winger Simon Adingra has shared his incredible journey from being stranded in Benin at the age of 12 to becoming a professional footballer. After his family fell victim to a fraudulent football academy, Adingra and nine other boys found themselves abandoned without support or resources. The young players banded together, taking odd jobs to survive while dreaming of a better future in football. Their fortunes changed when a fellow Ivorian recognized them and helped establish a small football center, which eventually evolved into a functioning academy in Benin. This pivotal moment set Adingra on a path that would lead him to play in tournaments and catch the attention of scouts. His talent was noticed by the Right to Dream academy, leading to stints at Nordsjaelland and Brighton & Hove Albion. Adingra's journey culminated in a move to Sunderland, where he scored his first goal on December 28, 2025, in a 1-1 draw against Leeds United. Following a loan to Monaco, Adingra continues to make strides in his career, showcasing his resilience and determination.
