Sunderland AFC has announced exciting plans to expand safe standing areas at the Stadium of Light ahead of the 2026/27 season. Following consultations with supporters, the club will install over 2,500 new rail seats in the designated 'singing section'. This expansion will see the safe standing area extend into the South West Corner of the stadium, adding more than 2,500 safe standing places. The introduction of safe standing in 2024 has already contributed positively to the matchday atmosphere while enhancing safety for fans who prefer to stand during games. The new rail seating will be installed this summer in selected areas of the Roker End and South West Corner, specifically in blocks U15, U16, U17, U18, U37, U38, U39, and U40. Sunderland AFC is committed to managing these safe standing areas responsibly, ensuring that all safety guidelines are followed. Additionally, the club has confirmed that the South Stand will be more clearly designated as a singing section, aiming to strengthen the matchday atmosphere further. This initiative reflects Sunderland's dedication to improving the overall experience for supporters while prioritizing their safety during matches.
