Sunderland Transfer Window Update: Eight Deals Still to Complete
Sunderland AFC is set for a busy end to the transfer window, with eight deals still to be completed by manager Florent Ghisolfi. The Black Cats have been working hard to line up new additions and trim the wage bill ahead of the new campaign.
What's at Stake?
Sunderland's transfer window has been quiet so far, but Ghisolfi is determined to get the deals done. The club has been linked with several players, including Dayann Methalie, a left back who was the subject of a €33 million bid earlier this week.
New Left Back and Right Winger Signings
Sunderland had a bid for Methalie rejected, but the club is still keen to sign a new left back. The Black Cats have also been linked with Sporting's Geny Catamo, but the asking price is reportedly very high. A new right winger is also a priority for Sunderland, with Matías Soulé and Trai Hume being considered.
New Left-Sided Centre Back
Sunderland made a move to sign Sassuolo centre back Tarik Muharemović earlier this summer, but Leeds United intervened to win the race. The Black Cats are still looking to sign competition and cover for Omar Alderete, with Jhon Lucumí being a target last summer.
Jenson Seelt's Future
If Sunderland do recruit in the two defensive positions, it will likely pave the way for Jenson Seelt to move on in search of regular game time. Le Bris confirmed that no final decision had been made, but Seelt is currently needed for cover.
Recent Form and League Standing
Sunderland currently sit 7th in the Premier League, 31 points behind leaders Arsenal. The Black Cats have been in good form, winning their last three games and scoring 42 goals this season. They have also conceded 48 goals, leaving them with a -6 goal difference.
